about

Boxing Ring is a reflection on being a woman in the music industry. It can be a circus. It's informed by the barriers women face in the music industry. It's about our aspirations, dreams and struggles. The title refers to the continual fight that we face in the industry. That women, non-binary and trans musicians are often treated as diversity trophies, novelised, and not taken seriously. We're constantly pitted against each other and cut down. It feels as though we're thrown into a boxing ring with each other, fighting for scraps, where often the more femme-presenting individual wins and men leer from every corner. Join us in the ring to fight our way out.

- Kate Olivia (vocalist/guitarist)

lyrics

Floating through my mind.
If you’d stop moaning, the world might listen.
Cutting the fruit down from my trees,
Fitting in the mise en scène.
So what? Big deal.
You should act more femme.

Turn me round
Hook me in
Spit me out
I’m the one.

What I say is not obscene,
When I’m feeling measured in my time.
The world keeps groaning, won’t someone listen?
Clawing at duality,
It’s such a drag, I’m drowning.
So what? Big deal
Stop acting like men.

Spin me round
Hook me in
Spit me out
I’m the one.

And I, oh I, I’ve always been a brawler.
And I, oh I’m sick of feeling smaller.
And I, oh I could be ten foot taller.
But I, oh I’m sick of all the bother

And I, oh, I’ve always been a brawler.
And I, oh I’m sick of feeling smaller.
And I, oh I could come in for ya.
Cause I, oh I’m sick of feeling, sick of feeling.

Turn me round
Hook me in
Spit me out
I’m the one.
